COLUMBUS, Neb. - Two Platte County inmates are accused of getting into a scuffle to start their new year. 21-year-old Morshawn Hawkins of Duncan and 26-year-old Armond Floyd of Omaha were cited for assault of a confined person. Platte County Sheriff logs say a fight occurred around 8 a.m. on Monday in the detention center. Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says the two suffered minors cuts and scratches. Hawkins is accused of stealing vehicles and possessing meth. Floyd is in custody after being sentenced to 30-40 years in prison for a child abuse conviction that resulted in the death of a two-year-old. He is being housed in the Platte County jail for the Nebraska Department of Corrections due to prison overcrowding.
