MONROE, NE — It’s just off Highway 22 in Monroe.. It’s a barn full of party animals, formally known as the Horn T Zoo.
The animals and the people too are celebrating a very special birthday.
Cletus the monkey turned two on Saturday, and his dad, Todd Laundenklos wanted to celebrate.
“It’s a fun celebration. We're building a new winter facility for our animals and hoping to be open throughout the winter and early spring instead of opening it in June. That's my whole goal."
Laudenklos was born and raised an animal lover and considers Cletus and his other animals to be more than just animals. It’s obvious in the way he and his father, Harry care for them on their 27 acres of land.
The line was quick to form as people came to celebrate Cletus' big day, as well as seeing what old and new animals the zoo boast.
The turnout to the bash, according to Laudenklos was expected to be bigger than last year after the zoo was nominated to be on the passport program. Because of that, the zoo, which is in its seventh year opened early.
“If you haven't gotten your stamp, stop by and see us. Check us out. We've had a very good turnout on it…We're getting a lot of people on the weekends because of it.”
Like Laudenklos mentioned, the money raised from the Cletus’ birthday will go towards the winter facility expansion. It’s where they will keep animals who can’t handle the cold, essentially keeping the zoo open longer.
