One Fatality In Train Accident Near Ansley

CUSTER COUNTY—Numerous accidents occurred throughout the county this weekend with one resulting in a fatality near Ansley. According to police logs, at approximately 6:32 P.M. on Saturday, November 17, Deputy Lawrence Stump was sent to an accident involving a vehicle and a train a little over a mile northwest of Ansley.

A west bound Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train pulling coal cars was observed to have been stopped and blocking the train crossing after impacting a vehicle. The passenger side of the small vehicle had been hit and the cab had been smashed in. The driver of the vehicle, Daniel R. Delgado, 20 of Kearney, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is currently in charge of the investigation which is on-going.

Brandon Moninger was driving his 2008 Blue Dodge Avenger on Friday, November 16, west on Paulsen Road when he began to leave the road to the right. Moninger then corrected sharply to the left to get back onto the road, but the action caused the vehicle to roll. The Avenger rolled 3 ½ times and landed on its wheels approximately 422 feet from when it left the road. Moninger was taken to the hospital for observation in another vehicle. Alcohol was believed to be a factor and the investigation is currently on-going.
