NPPD Earns National, State Recognition for Safety

COLUMBUS – Nebraska Public Power District has earned national and state recognition for their culture of safety.

NPPD says in a press release that they finished 1st among their peer group in the American Public Power Association’s Safety Awards of Excellence.

The recognition is based on a company’s recorded incidence rate and the number of new cases per employee who are at risk, says NPPD. Roughly 1,900 people are employed by NPPD.

This past year was Nebraska Public Power’s best performance in over 20 years, says the release.

“NPPD teammates have high standards for themselves and their co-workers,” said President and CEO Pat Pope. “Safety is the first item of business at every meeting. NPPD provides proper training, ensures qualifications are met, and requires oversight in the field. As an organization, we are focused on achieving an interdependent safety culture whereby we constantly reinforce safe behaviors and conditions which lead to a safer work environment. This commitment to and from our employees is an NPPD hallmark.”

Other awards NPPD received include the Peak Workforce Safety Award – Award of Distinction (18th strait year), from the Nebraska Safety Council, and Nebraska Safest Company Award from the National Safety Council, says the release.

NPPD operates 12 generation facilites throughout the state, along with more than 8,000 miles of transmission and distribution power lines, says the release.

NPPD will be recognized during the 2018 Engineering and Operations Technical Conference in North Carolina.
