New Scam Targeting Columbus Residents Via Phone

COLUMBUS - NPPD officials are warning Columbus area residents of a new scam, after recent reports from local customers. NPPD says a new scam is hitting the area, where residents are receiving calls from a number displaying "NPPD" on the caller ID. “The caller wants to discuss credit card information which is something NPPD never discusses with customers over the phone” says NPPD Customer Care Business Manager Robyn Tweedy. NPPD News Editor Clint Przymus says customers should not attempt to make a payment or provide credit card account information over the phone, but should instead alert their local law enforcement office, or contact NPPD’s Centralized Customer Care Center at 1-877-ASK-NPPD at 877-275-6773. Przymus says customers of other power companies should be cautious of scammers attempting to pose as other power companies.
