BARTLETT—Booked on charges of loitering, trespassing, and obstruction of spring, ‘winter’ was arrested last week by the
Nebraska State Patrol (NSP). On April 7 the NSP posted a photo jokingly arresting ‘winter’ on the
NSP Facebook page.
NSP Public Relations Director Cody Thomas said troopers were giving safety training at Wheeler Central Public Schools in Bartlett and decided to have some fun with the snowy conditions. Wheeler Central Superintendent Rod Olson volunteered to act as the culprit. Like most Nebraskans, Thomas said the troopers are fed up with the winter weather.
“It was snowing outside and quite frankly we’re all tired of the snow so they thought they’d have a little fun and the superintendent Rod Olson volunteered to play the part of winter and so we took the picture and just photo shopped winter on his back so it looked like we were arresting winter,” Thomas said.
The post on the
NSP Facebook page has been ‘Liked’ by more than 3,200 people and shared nearly 2,600 times. Nebraskans can appreciate the NSP’s frustration with this unwelcome winter weather now in mid-April. Facebook users joined in on the fun with comments suggesting winter surely had an accomplice and to “lock him up and throw away the key!”
One comment said winter would bond out and it appears to be accurate. The
National Weather Service of North Platte has issued a
blizzard warning for KCNI/KBBN’s listening area from 1 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Saturday. Wind gusts could reach 55 MPH with possible snow accumulation of five to eight inches.
A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or are occurring. Falling and blowing snow with reduced visibilities likely with white-out conditions making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Call 5-1-1 for the latest road conditions.
Stay safe and warm this weekend and hopefully state troopers will apprehend winter once and for all in the near future!
“I don’t know how to explain it but he must’ve broken out or something because it sounds like he’s going to be back this weekend which we’re not looking forward to it but we’ll have to send some troopers back out on the road looking for him again,” Thomas said.
