Nebraska state college system’s top administrator is retiring

Stan Carpenter, the top administrator of the Nebraska state college system, is retiring. Evidently, no date has been set for his retirement, said two people who work in the system office in Lincoln. Carpenter could not be reached for comment. Carpenter, who is about 70, is the chancellor of the system, which is made up of Wayne, Peru and Chadron State Colleges. Each state college has a president. Carpenter began as the system’s executive director about 17 years ago. He was renamed chancellor to reflect more authority and the state colleges’ desire to speak with a common voice. Angela Melton of the system office said Carpenter is in good health. The system  disclosed the leadership development Thursday in a notice that the State College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Tuesday in Lincoln. The agenda says the meeting will involve creation of a chancellor search committee and possible additional action on the search process.
