NORFOLK – It’s National Teen Driver Safety Week and one group from Norfolk is taking an active part in spreading the message.
Teens in the Drivers Seat is an organization in 34 schools across Nebraska focusing on teens educating teens to be safe drivers and brings together students, parents, school administrators and the community to reduce teen crashes on the road.
Although teens identify texting while driving a risk, 68 percent still text while driving.
Safe driving efforts are making a difference. Statewide education and partnerships with schools are playing a vital role. In Nebraska, deaths among teens due to motor vehicle crashes have dropped by 50 percent since 2007.
