YANKTON, SD — A Yankton woman authorities had been searching for since Monday is dead.
The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 59-year-old Phyllis Hunhoff was found inside her vehicle in a rural area of the Santee Sioux Reservation in Knox County. Authorities say foul play is suspected.
Family members tell News Channel Nebraska that a hunter discovered Hunhoff's car about 5:00 PM Wednesday. Knox County law enforcement then contacted the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office.
Hunhoff was last seen between 9:00 and 10:00 PM Sunday night at her mother’s home about 12 miles north of Yankton. She did not make it home that night and did not report to work Monday morning.
The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, FBI and Santee Tribal Police are all investigating.
