PIERCE, NE — A northeast Nebraska bank is offering new loan options for those affected by recent floods.
Midwest Bank unveiled an emergency flood relief program this week that offers up to $5,000 at five percent interest rate for five years. CEO Doug Johnson says the program is a quick in and out to get money to people swiftly.
“We need to get cash in the hands of people that need it right away because they’re needing to tear up carpet, deal with drywall, have relocation things – they need cash right away,” Johnson said. “No hassle, just get money in their hands right away and deal with the big picture later.”
Midwest Bank has 10 locations in Nebraska and Johnson says most Midwest Bank cities are affected by floods. The United Way has partnered with the bank to open regional accounts for relief efforts. In Johnson’s hometown of Pierce, the Chamber of Commerce has a relief fund that can be donated to from any branch location.
Johnson says the relief and donation efforts are part of being a community bank.
“Community banks in Nebraska have been a big part of building Nebraska to what it is today and they certainly will answer the call to help rebuild Nebraska,” Johnson said.
