Merna Heritage Days: Hometown Heroes Celebration

MERNA—To kick off Merna’s annual Heritage Days celebration, the fourth annual Anselmo-Merna Foundation banquet is scheduled for tonight at the One Box Convention Center in Broken Bow, open to everyone. Contact Barb Miller at 308-643-0400 for more information.

The fun continues first thing Saturday morning with a free pancake feed from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Anselmo-Merna school.

Saturday: Downtown concessions by The Secret Garden 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Parade on Main Street at 10 a.m., Lunch at the Community Center at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Petal Tractor Pull sponsored by Merna American Legion at 11 a.m., 3-on-3 basketball, sand volleyball, obstacle course, scavenger hunt, mini golf and water activities, MVFD Jaws Demonstration at 1 p.m., face painting, kids races/games, bingo, crafts, bunny bingo, ping pong drop.

John Smith with Nebraska State Bank said he appreciates the support and dedication it takes to put on local celebrations.

“I just want to reiterate all the hard work that goes into this and the people behind the scenes here at Merna and all these small towns. These celebrations would not happen if we didn’t have these people supporting it,” Smith said.

To end the day on Saturday, the alumni BBQ will take place in the city park at 5:30 p.m., Firemen’s watermelon feed at 8 p.m. at the ball field, and fireworks at 10 p.m.
