COLUMBUS, Neb. - After initially filing for re-election, a longtime Platte County Supervisor decided to walk away from the race.
Supervisor Tom Martens of Columbus, who has been a supervisor since being elected in 2002, will not seek a fifth-term after withdrawing his candidacy last week.
Martens, a Republican, told News Channel Nebraska that he decided to step away due to personal health reasons.
Three Columbus men are currently running to replace him: Libertarian John R. Harms, Republican Todd Stuthman and Republican Fred Liss.
Martens says that he has not endorsed anybody for his district 1 seat, as the filing deadline for non-incumbents has not expired.
The deadline for non-incumbents to file is March 1st at 5 p.m.
