Local Officials Unsure What Caused Mysterious Boom Over Weekend

COLUMBUS - Local law enforcment agencies are unsure of what caused a mysterious 'boom' over the weekend. Columbus Police Dispatchers say they received several calls starting at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, after a large booming noise was heard around the Columbus area.  Police officers spoke with several residents across town, and along the Loup River, but were unable to locate the source of the noise. The sheriff's department had one call come in, from an area resident, who thought a shotgun or illegal firework had been fired off. Some residents living near Monroe, reportedly heard the booming noise as well.
