The Lower Loup Natural Resources District will hold the 2022 Great Backyard Bird Count on Saturday, February 19 from 10 AM to Noon at the LLNRD Arboretum in Ord. Information Specialist Alan Bartels said the 11-acre arboretum was planted with trees and shrubs which has created a habitat for multiple species of birds.

“There is a surprising number of birds in there from Robbins and regular backyard stuff to hawks,” said Bartels. “It’s a great resource and it is one that is not super well known throughout the district”

Those who attend can enjoy coffee and hot chocolate while exploring the arboretum, trail, Bussell Park, Dane Creek, and other nearby sites while documenting the birds you see. The arboretum is located adjacent to the LLNRD office at 2620 Airport Drive in Ord.

If you are unable to attend the bird count, Bartels encourages residents to keep an eye on the skies and trees.
