NEBRASKA CITY – Lawyers for a man accused of the premeditated murder of a Douglas couple on March 22 are questioning his competency to stand trial.
Otoe County Public Defender Michael Ziskey and Robert Kortus of the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy asked the court for an order requiring Brindar Jangir to submit to a psychiatric examination.
Sheriff deputies discovered the bodies of Randal and Annette Grimes after responding to a 9-1-1 call at the residence. Jangir was later arrested in California.
Although the court has sealed Jangir’s arrest affidavit, an Associated Press report said his former girlfriend told investigators he threatened to kill her and her family if she ever left him.
