Hyannis claims MNAC volleyball tournament title

The Hyannis Lady Longhorns outlasted the South Loup Lady Bobcats in five sets Saturday (10/14) to claim the championship of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference volleyball tournament. It was a thrilling championship match that went back and forth. South Loup won the opening set 25-20 with Hyannis coming back to win the second 25-22. The Lady Bobcats took the pivotal third set 25-22. Hyannis would answer again by winning the fourth 25-19 and forced a fifth and deciding set. The Lady Longhorns grabbed the early lead in the fifth and hung on to win 15-8. Coming from behind was a theme for Hyannis. Earlier in the day, the Lady Longhorns fell behind 2 sets to none to Brady in the semifinals but fought back to win the next two and ended up winning in the fifth 15-13. South Loup also went five sets in their semifinal against Sandhills/Thedford. The scores went 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-9 in favor of South Loup. In the third place consolation match, Brady and Sandhills/Thedford battled in another 5 set thriller with Brady winning in the fifth 15-10. In other consolation matches Saturday, Ansley/Litchfield def. Mullen 25-16, 25-20 (2-0) and Anselmo-Merna def. Cody Kilgore 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 (2-1). Ansley/Litchfield def. Anselmo-Merna in straight sets in the fifth place consolation match and Mullen def. Cody-Kilgore in straight sets in the 7th place consolation match.
