COLUMBUS --A Columbus house fire sent smoke over its downtown as firefighters worked to control the blaze. The call came in just after two o'clock today for a home at 2821 10th Street. Upon arrival, Columbus Fire and Rescue crews encountered heavy smoke and immediately broke several windows to extinguish the blaze in the basement and on the first floor of the home. Duncan Fire and Rescue was also called to the scene for assistance. No word yet on on whether anyone was home at the time of the fire but officials on scene did not transport anyone to the hospital. The Nebraska State Fire Marshall's office is investigating the incident.
