Hold On To Your Hats! Strong Winds Blowing Into Area To End The Week

The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued high wind watches and warnings for a large portion of north-central Nebraska. A strong storm system will be crossing into the Great Plains today through Friday which will bring scattered rain showers and possible early Friday snow showers with little to no accumulation.

Blustery northwest winds with gusts of 35+ MPH today (Wednesday), 50+ MPH tomorrow (Thursday), and 45+ MPH on Friday will be blowing into the area which could also push wind chill values into the single digits, especially on Friday morning.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and powerlines. Travel will be difficult especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles. Blowing dust will be possible especially near freshly plowed fields. Outdoor decorations and furniture could be blown around if left unsecured.

Due to low humidity values of 20-25%, elevated fire conditions will take place Thursday.
