BEATRICE – Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says last week’s state supreme court ruling on the liquor license dispute in Whiteclay demonstrated that the Nebraska Liquor Commission had the authority to not grant the licenses.
During a news conference, Ricketts acknowledged that problems remain, that must be addressed.

Ricketts said the state will continue to support the village of Whiteclay and has offered a grant to help make changes.

Ricketts says until those on the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation address the problem of alcohol abuse, the area is still at risk of continuing to see problems with alcohol use. He says his administration has continued to work with state senators and village representatives on the issues.
Asked about the mass shooting at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas, Ricketts said “our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of this terrible incident.”

Authorities have yet to identify a motive for the shooting that killed 58 people at the outdoor country music concert but say they believe 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock acted alone. He killed himself after carrying out the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval said at a news conference Monday that he visited some of the victims in the hospital and that, "We're angry, we're grieving, we're confused, people are hurting." Sandoval called the shooting “a cowardly, despicable act”. He and other local officials praised first responders, saying they saved scores of lives.
The FBI says the shooter had no connection to an international terrorist group.
