FAIRBURY - What started as a dream certainly could become a reality for Derek and Stephanie Garfield.
In partnership with the annual FCCLA Fun Run, all funds that were raised went directly toward the Garfields' effort to adopt a child.
Angie Dragoo helped organize the event.
"They loved the idea, so I met with the Garfields a couple of times. We set up a date and then I posted it on Facebook. Then, Tammy said it's the same weekend as FCCLA run, why not combine the two together," stated Dragoo.
The one mile or 5K run brought family and friends to the Fairbury City Park. Derek addressed the participants before the race started.
"Steph and I really have not had to do any work. They have done everything, so we can't appreciate it enough from you guys. All the kids that are here to help out, it means a lot to all of us. Steph and I feel really blessed to live in Fairbury, Nebraska and we also feel really blessed to have such support. Everybody has came to us and said 'what can we do to help?' We can't say thank you enough," said Derek Garfield.
This past Friday, Garfield learned that they were officially eligible to adopt after passing their home study.
