Gage County Fairground Visitors Get Prepared for Solar Eclipse with “The Blob”

BEATRICE - Visitors from all over got a lesson in film history, as Gage County Fairgrounds hosted late night movie viewings in preparation for the solar eclipse. "Tonight, we showed, first of all, 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers' and then we're showing 'The Blob,' and the 1950s versions. This is the 1958 with Steve McQueen. It's the original 'The Blob,' wanted to do something different," said Executive Director of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce and Gage County Tourism, Lora Young. It was reported that there were people from Texas and New York in the audience. The movie showings were in addition to many events happening over the weekend in the area. "Basically, they're science, they're science fiction movies. They're all based on space and the focus is based on space. It's something that I've wanted to do since we started talking about the eclipse and I thought it would be fun to go back and view the original cult classics," stated Young. Both movies will be playing again Sunday evening.
