FRHS Offers Public Health Tips After Flooding

NORFOLK, NE — Officials with Faith Regional Health Services are giving advice on how to keep safe and healthy after the recent flooding in the state.

Chair of Infection Control Dr. Bryon Hirschman says being around flood waters can be detrimental to your health.  With many evacuated residents across Nebraska starting to return to their homes, he says personal decontamination should be a point of emphasis.

“After you’ve been busy cleaning, we talk about washing clothes, making sure you have clean water, eating food that hasn’t been contaminated,” Hirschman said.  “Trying to encourage them to clean up their homes quickly – within the first 24 to 48 hours after a flood eliminates the risk for mold.”

Dr. Hirschman encourages flood victims to wear work boots, gloves, goggles and a mask while cleaning mold or sewage.  For more tips you can click on this story in the news tab of our website.
