Food Bank for the Heartland in Broken Bow Nov. 7 & Mason City Nov. 19

BROKEN BOW—The  Food Bank for the Heartland will once again be visiting Custer County this weekend with enough food to feed 528 families. The  mobile food pantry will be held on Saturday, November 7 at the Berean Bible Church parking lot located at 2419 Memorial Drive, Broken Bow, NE 68822. Food will be distributed drive-thru style with no need for recipients to get out of their vehicles.

All are welcome to receive food to help feed their families. Cars are asked not to line up until 9 a.m. and food will be distributed by volunteers starting at 9:30 a.m. until about 12 p.m. or until all the food is gone.

Event organizer Tina Hurt said volunteers are needed this Saturday. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at 8 a.m. to help unload the truck prior to food distribution. Volunteers are needed to unload the truck, distribute food boxes to each car, direct traffic, and cleanup. Volunteers will be required to wear masks.

Tina Hurt said there are no requirements for the public to receive food as the mobile food pantry is non-income based. All of the food must be given away so Hurt encourages the public to reach out to family, neighbors, or anyone they know who cannot get out of the house and bring an extra box of food to them as well.

Cars are asked to not line up in the Berean Church (on the corner of Memorial Drive and Highway 2 in Broken Bow) parking lot until 9 a.m. in order to allow for the  Foodbank for the Heartland semi-truck to finish unloading food and pull out of the parking lot. During past mobile food pantry events, food boxes have included enough items to feed a family of four for a week, such as canned goods, fresh produce, pasta, and baked goods.

“There’s food for 528 families again. There should be enough food to go around so there’s no need to have to be first in line to wait,” Hurt said.
