TECUMSEH - The Johnson County attorney’s office has filed two separate cases alleging financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
58-year-old Gary Vaughn of Auburn is accused over taking $60,000 from his elderly mother’s bank account and leaving her with unpaid bills at an assisted living facility in Johnson County.
A Feb. 14 hearing is set for Vaughn who has been living at his mother’s Auburn residence.
Johnson County Attorney Rick Smith has also filed a felony charge of terroristic threats against Dale Johnson, 58, of Tecumseh.
Court records say Johnson’s mother, Darlene Johnson, told deputies she is certain her grown, live-in children are stealing from her.
Nebraska adult protective services later told deputies a phone conversation was overheard in which Johnson is heard to threatening to “smack” his mother, if she claims he is stealing.
Johnson’s sister, 53-year-old Brenda Laflin of Tecumseh shares power of attorney with Dale Johnson. Laflin is charged with stealing $1,850 from her mother.
Court records say she told investigators she used the money to pay her personal medical bills. Laflin is the subject of an arrest warrant issued Wednesday.
