COLUMBUS - The city will be able to move forward with a planned project at the municipal airport, thanks to some changes in federal funding.
Columbus City Administrator Tara Vasicek says during her recent visit to Washington D.C., she was able to work with Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, to get an amendment put into place. The amendment would help give 90 percent federal funding on a project to building a new Snow Removal Equipment building at the Columbus airport.
Vasicek says a previous law would allow 90 percent of federal funding towards the airport project, but said roughly 4 years ago, a decision was made that would cut that particular funding. The cut would also shrink the building from 6,000 square feet to 3,000 square feet.
Vasicek says thanks to the amendment they are able to put the 6,000 square foot building that was needed, along with the funding they needed. The amendment still needs to be approved by the U.S. Senate, and a motion was made to night that would only move forward if the amendment is approved.
The city approved an agreement on Monday with Krikham Michael & Associates, in the amount of no more than $158,060.75, for design and construction phase services.
