Diversity Council to Host Inaugural MLK Breakfast

NORFOLK - An inaugural breakfast will be held in Norfolk to celebrate the life and vision of Martin Luther King Jr. In partnership with Northeast Community College, the Mayor's Diversity Council is holding the event at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk on Monday morning. Doors to the event open at 6:30 a.m. Monday with breakfast served at 7 a.m. The public is invited to the event, but seating is limited and an RSVP will be required. The featured speaker for the event will be Vickie R. Young, president of the Omaha Branch of the NAACP. Norfolk Mayor Josh Moenning says the event and aim of the Diversity Council is to "enhance diversity and inclusion in the Norfolk area by helping to create a welcoming environment throughout the community, developing and building relationships, emphasizing the importance of diversity in our school systems, and engaging minority communities in the civic process.” The event is sponsored by US Bank, Center for Rural Affairs, Nebraska Public Power District, Elkhorn Valley Bank, Victory Road Assembly of God, Northeast Community College, Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce, Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, Volk Farms, William and Vicki R.
