Details Released On Wednesday Accident West Of Broken Bow

More information has been released on the two-vehicle accident that took place on Wednesday, March 10 west of Broken Bow.

According to the accident report from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, Cody Berndt, 22 of Gothenburg, was traveling west on Highway 2 in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup at approximately 4 PM and was slowing for oncoming traffic before he was going to make a left turn onto Ryno Road. At the same time Joyce Haumont, 70 of Anselmo, was also driving west in a 2014 Dodge Caravan when she failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the pickup.

Berndt was taken to Melham Medical Center by a private vehicle with a possible injury to his spine.

Haumont was transported to Melham Medical Center by Broken Bow EMS with unknown injuries.

The airbags deployed in the van, but did not deploy in the pickup. Seatbelts were used by both drivers. Both vehicles were listed as totaled and citations were not issued to either driver.

Broken Bow Fire and Rescue, Broken Bow Police Department, and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
