COLUMBUS - Have you ever seen a herd of people in red suit coats walking in and out of one of Columbus' many businesses, and wondered who they were? Well wonder no more.
The herd of red coasts, is also known as the Columbus Commodores, which acts as the goodwill arm of the Columbus Chamber.
Columbus Chamber Vice-President Sharyle Sands says the group's main activities involve visiting new businesses, ground breaking, ribbon cuttings, and celebrating/recognizing milestones for local businesses. The most recent visit, Thursday, was to Wize Buys Carpet, who is celebrating 40 years of business in Columbus.
"I think it's very helpful, when our group of 34, have the opportunity to go out and welcome a new business owner to the chamber of commerce. Then they [the business owners] have the power to share their story. So it's going and helping to promote that business, and the commodores are kind of the cheerleader for that new business that joined the chamber of commerce," says Sands.
The most recent ribbon cutting was at Columbus' newest clothing store Glik's on the east side of town. Commodores also visit with existing chamber members each year, and potential new chamber members as a part of the chamber's outreach effort in the community.
So next time you're curious about a business in town, keep your eyes peeled for a red coat. They just might have the answer you're looking for.
