Broken Bow School Board Met March 19th

The Broken Bow School Board met for their regular meeting Monday, March 19th. All Board members were present for a meeting that was much shorter than usual.

J.B. Atkins provided an overview of the financial report and said that the school remains within budget guidelines so far this year.

School Superintendent Tom Bailey announced the District Accolades for this month one of which went to the 6th-grade class who raised money to purchase a digital tablet for Mrs. Fiorelli’s 3-year old son Frederick. Mr. Bailey also mentioned the importance of the Sportsmanship Award the Broken Bow School received at the state basketball tournament.

During administrator comments, Elementary Principal Kim Jonas talked about a successful Bingo Book Fair that was held last week where over 150 books were given away to students. Profits from the sales during the book fair will be used to purchase over $1,300 dollars of new books for the school libraries. The state testing window has opened and will run through April. Mrs. Jonas and High School Principal Rusty Kluender both talked about the various test requirements and preparations being made for testing at different grade levels.

Assistant Principal and Activities Director Ryan Hogue reviewed the many events students have participated in during the winter season. He also talked about the success of the basketball and wrestling teams. Hogue said there are 83 students out for high school track, 80 out for middle school track and 11 students participating in high school golf.

Many of the action items were tabled until the next meeting. However, the Board did approve the annual history textbook and approved hiring Penny Myers as Board Secretary.
