Brief Power Outage Across Custer County and Surrounding Areas

UPDATE 4:10 p.m. Rick Nelson spoke with KCNI/KBBN and said while crews were were working on the substation, a breaker (that had previously been causing some problems) failed. Crews were able to isolate the breaker and get things switched around in order to resume power. Nelson said crews were prepared for the worst, cautionary measures were in place, and everybody is safe.

BROKEN BOW–Power outages were widespread this afternoon within KCNI/KBBN’s coverage area just before 3:40 p.m. Rick Nelson with Custer Public Power District told KCNI/KBBN that crews with Nebraska Public Power Distrcit were working on a substation breaker on the south side of Broken Bow when everything “went dark.”

As of 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, Nelson said he was not sure exactly what happened but that the substation work affected several other feeds causing power outages at various substations including Taylor, Sargent, Haumont, Sherbeck (Ansley), Mason City, Litchfield, Merna, Gates, Safranek, Ortello, and Anselmo.

Nelson said power should be back on in most of the aforementioned areas.
