Book Bag/School Supplies Giveaway on August 1

CUSTER COUNTY–The Custer County Unit of Salvation Army will hold its annual Book Bag/School Supplies Giveaway on Wednesday, August 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Broken Bow Municipal Building (314 S 10th Ave, Broken Bow, NE 68822).

New back packs, school supplies and vouchers for school clothing or additional supplies will be distributed to school age children from Custer County whose families otherwise may not be able to cover back-to-school expense.

All children must be accompanied by an adult and all items will be distributed while supplies last. Doors will not open until 4 p.m.

This back-to-school event is one of the longest-running projects sponsored by the Salvation Army in Custer County. It has grown from helping 30 children in 2004 to assisting 201 children last year.

“We have been very fortunate to receive exceptional support from the community, which helps keep this project going,” Salvation Army chairman, Julie Toline, said. “This year Great Western Bank contributed $500 and the Presbyterian Church provided a generous donation of school supplies.”

Most of the back packs are supplied at no cost to Custer County from the Omaha Salvation Army office. Funds for the school supplies and gift cards come from interest earned from the Cliff Luther Endowment, from bell ringing contributions and donations from the community.
