52-year-old Fremont woman dies in Saunders County crash

A 52-year-old Fremont woman died Sunday following a three-vehicle crash on Nebraska Highway 92 near Mead, Nebraska, in Saunders County.

Peggy R. Havener was taken to the Saunders County Medical Center in Wahoo, where she died, said Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz.

Havener’s husband, Scott Havener, 58, was taken to the medical center and later transported to a Lincoln hospital where he was listed Monday in fair condition.

Investigators determined that Scott Havener was eastbound on Highway 92 in a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle about 7 p.m. The pickup was struck broadside by a westbound semitrailer truck driven by James T. Cooley, 53, of Smithland, Iowa. Cooley was not injured.

A second eastbound pickup also collided with the Haveners’ pickup truck, but that vehicle sustained only minor damage, Stukenholtz said.
