28 percent of registered Nebraska voters are expected to participate in the May 15 primary

Secretary of State John Gale predicts statewide turnout for Nebraska’s May 15 primary election at 28 percent of registered voters.

Gale based his prediction on historical voting patterns, the 47,516 additional voters on the rolls, “the contested nature of the races in the primary” and “the percentage of people likely to vote early,” he said in a release.

Online voter registration ended April 30, with a surge the week before thanks to a reminder sent by Facebook, Gale said.

Nebraska has just under 1.2 million registered voters, so he’s predicting turnout of about 336,000. About 28 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the 2014 gubernatorial primary.
