23rd Infantry Arrives at Fort Hartsuff, 1875

BURWELL – The 23rd Infantry Regiment of the United States Army will be taking its leave at Fort Hartsuff in Burwell from Saturday, July 30 through Sunday, July 31.

The historical park will open the portals of time so that civilians may get a firsthand look at how the 23rd would have maintained its readiness in 1875.

Everything about the day and the regiment will be period correct, from the brass buttons on the soldiers’ uniforms to the raising and lowering of Old Glory.

Soldiers will be found throughout the weekend doing, among other things: chores, drilling, and guarding the fort exactly as they would have in 1875. The fort will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 30, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday the 31.

Admission is $4 for adults and $1 for children 3 to 12 years old. A valid Nebraska Park Permit is required and can be purchased at the Post Headquarters. More information can be found here, or by calling the Fort Hartsuff Historical Park directly at (308) 346-4715.
