Tristen Edwards powers NU with three homers

Raleigh, N.C. — Tristen Edwards hit three home runs Friday to lead Nebraska to a pair of wins at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Huskers (5-2) hit five total home runs on the day while beating North Carolina State 7-2 and drilling Pittsburgh 14-1 in five innings.

Edwards, a junior from Murrieta, California, opened the day with a home run in the top of the first against North Carolina State to give Nebraska a 1-0 lead.

The Huskers added three runs in the top of the third, including a solo homer from freshman Lindsey Walljasper to put NU ahead 5-0.

The Wolfpack scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut their deficit, but Edwards added another homer in the seventh to give the Huskers a 7-2 lead.

Edwards went 2 for 4 against N.C. State, and her two homers marked the first multi-home run game by a Husker since March 31 last season when she hit two against Northwestern.

Walljasper also earned the win in the circle, giving up five hits with two strikeouts.

Elkhorn South graduate Olivia Ferrell allowed one hit while pitching against Pittsburgh, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

The Huskers also shined on offense, getting 10 hits to win their third straight game.

Nebraska scored four runs in the second inning, with Edwards driving in three on her third home run of the day.

Samantha Owen’s grand slam in the top of the fifth put Nebraska ahead 14-0. It was her first home run for the Huskers.

The Huskers play N.C. State again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
