LINCOLN — After spending weeks on the outside looking in, Nebraska finally made its way into the AP Poll on Monday.
Voters ranked Nebraska No. 24 in the latest AP Top 25 after the Huskers’ 7-1 start — their best since 2003. It is Nebraska’s first AP ranking since the start of the 2014-15 season.
The Huskers began their season with convincing wins over Mississippi Valley State and Southeastern Louisiana, then beat Seton Hall at home. It looked like that would be enough for the Huskers to earn a ranking, but they were bumped off course after a loss to Texas Tech in Kansas City.
But two wins over Clemson and Illinois changed voters’ minds, and the Huskers will now have an official ranking next to their name.
Nebraska received votes as high as No. 16. The most votes came in at Nos. 19 and 23.
Nebraska returns to action Wednesday at Minnesota at 8 p.m. The Huskers then face Creighton in Lincoln on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Bluejays received votes in this week’s AP Poll, coming in at No. 31. This is the first time Nebraska has played Creighton as a ranked team since 1992, when the Huskers were ranked No. 25. They beat unranked Creighton 100-83.
