LINCOLN — Lamar Jackson is one of the more physically imposing Huskers.
The cornerback’s long arms are covered in tattoos, as are his legs. He towers at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds.
But Wednesday, Jackson melted in front of the media.
“Practices been good. I actually missed Monday practice,” he said.
Then he tried to hide a smile. He failed.
“Had a child. Had my first baby, yeah. Got a little baby boy. But, yeah, practice was good today.”
The senior’s son, Legacy, was born Monday. Jackson, who has gone from benched to a team leader, didn’t need any extra motivation for this season. But Monday sure helped add another dose.
“You kinda got no choice,” Jackson said. “I’ll be honest, I loved every moment of it. There ain’t no book to any of this, so I’m just gonna keep working. I was gonna do what I had to do anyway since it’s my last year, and so now it’s just mandatory.
“So it’s time to turn it up a little bit and just keep going.”
Legacy already has plenty of Husker gear. He’ll surely get more over the next 12 months.
“It’s the first thing people bring up (to him),” Jackson said.
