unior college transfer Jaron Woodyard confirmed to The World-Herald on Wednesday he’ll be headed to Nebraska later this month after clearing up his academic situation.
Woodyard, a three-star wide receiver who spent two seasons at Arizona Western College, signed with Nebraska in December of 2017. The plan was to enroll early, but he said complications with a math class pushed back his timeline.
This spring he’s been living back home in Bethesda, Maryland, watching Nebraska practice videos on YouTube and finishing up four online courses. He’s got an A in math and B in English. He said he’s scheduled to arrive in Lincoln on May 22.
“Right now it’s just the waiting game,” Woodyard said. “I’ll be there soon. I’ll be there real soon.”
Woodyard said he’s been studying the playbook and will be ready to contribute immediately. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Woodyard was the No. 2 juco wide receiver in the 2018 recruiting class, according to 247sports. Last season he caught 36 balls for 522 yards and six touchdowns.
“Speed kills. He has it,” Arizona Western coach Tim Minnick told The World-Herald in December. “You just gotta use him where you know he can get out there and outrun people. That’s what we did. (In) Coach Frost’s offense — with Jaron catching the screen and all that stuff — he’s going to be a great one. He was a running back in high school, so he has that feel, too.”
