MADISON, Wis. — Nicea Eliely’s driving layup with 0.7 seconds left gave the Huskers a 69-67 lead, but Wisconsin’s Kelly Karlis knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner as time expired to hand Nebraska a 70-69 loss Sunday.
For the Badgers (11-10, 2-7 Big Ten), it was only their second 3-pointer of the game. Karlis scored six during Wisconsin’s 13-2 surge in the final four minutes.
Taylor Kissinger led the Huskers (9-11, 4-5) with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while going 5 for 7 overall from the field. Fellow sophomore Kate Cain contributed 14 points to go with seven rebounds.
Cain and Kissinger combined for Nebraska’s first 10 points of the fourth quarter to help the Huskers build a 60-53 edge.
Junior Hannah Whitish — a Wisconsin native — added 12 points, including her fourth 3-pointer of the contest with 6:55 left to extend NU’s margin to 63-53. Whitish also dished out seven assists.
But the Huskers got two field goals the rest of the way as Wisconsin rallied to tie it 67-67 with 1:01 left on a pair of free throws. The Badgers hit 8 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, including their final six after entering the game shooting 52 percent from the line for the season.
Marsha Howard scored a game-high 18 points for Wisconsin.
The Huskers continue their Big Ten road swing Thursday at 7 p.m. against Purdue.
