Minnesota ace Amber Fiser shuts down Huskers

LINCOLN — Amber Fiser tied a career high with 13 strikeouts Friday night to lead No. 18 Minnesota to a 3-0 Big Ten softball victory over Nebraska.

Fiser scattered six hits, with only freshman Peyton Glatter getting more than one hit off the Gophers ace. Nebraska left nine runners on base. The Gophers (30-10) left 13 baserunners stranded.

Starter Olivia Ferrell took the loss for the Huskers (15-25), pitching three-plus innings and giving up the first Minnesota run in the second inning by walking four batters.

The Gophers added two runs in the top of the sixth inning off relief pitcher Courtney Wallace.

Nebraska will host Minnesota in the second game of the three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
