Nebraska’s starting left tackle Nick Gates declared for the NFL Draft early Tuesday morning.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound tackle announced the decision on Twitter, thanking his family, fans and former Nebraska football staff.

“Coach (Mike) Riley and Coach (Mike) Cavanaugh, you gave me a chance I never thought I would have, and it is because of you I now get to pursue my dreams.”

Gates couldn’t be immediately reached for further comment.

Gates was a 4-star lineman out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. He redshirted in 2014 and became a regular at right tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2015. Gates settled in at left tackle his sophomore season, and would go on to start 26 games at that spot, the most at that position in school history.

Gates was named third-team All-Big Ten by the media in 2016.
