Hurricanes hand Husker women their second straight loss to open Miami Thanksgiving Classic

MIAMI — No. 24 Miami took a 19-point halftime lead and kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way in an 82-68 win over the Nebraska women Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Miami Thanksgiving Classic.

Trailing 44-25 at the half, Nebraska cut its deficit to 10 early in the fourth quarter. But the Huskers weren’t able to draw any closer.

Sam Haiby led Nebraska with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Hannah Whitish added 13 points. Nicea Eliely finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Laura Cornelius led Miami with 23 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals. In the paint, the Hurricanes got 20 points and 13 rebounds from Beatrice Mompremier.

Nebraska (1-3) looks to snap a two-game losing streak when it faces Radford on Sunday at 11 a.m.
