CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Nebraska women’s basketball team improved to 3-1 in Big Ten play by holding on for an 80-72 win over Illinois on Wednesday night.
Nebraska, which led throughout the final three quarters, was up 70-58 with less than seven minutes to play before Illinois whittled the lead to 72-70 with three minutes left.
After the teams traded free throws, NU’s Hannah Whitish hit her sixth 3-pointer of the game with 31 seconds left to make it 77-72 and secure the win.
Whitish led four Huskers in double figures with 20 points, while Jasmine Cincore added eight points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
Nebraska (12-5) returns home to play Michigan on Saturday at 7 p.m.
