After season-opening loss, No. 12 Nebraska wrestling finishes strong, defeats Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. — No. 12 Nebraska bounced back from Friday’s dual loss to Wisconsin with a 22-12 victory at Wyoming on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers trailed 9-6 through four matches before winning five of the last six.

The match turned during the 133-pound bout. After NU’s Christian Lance and Zake Moisey lost back-to-back matches, freshman Tucker Sjomeling upset 11th-ranked Montorie Bridges 13-11. Sjomeling trailed 11-10 before recording a takedown with 30 seconds against Bridges, who was an All-American last season.

Wyoming’s only win after that came at 165 as 10th-ranked Branson Ashworth earned a 3-0 decision over No. 11 Isaiah White.

At 174, NU freshman Mikey Labriola, who lost his first match Friday, responded with a 14-11 win over Hayden Hastings. Labriola led 10-4 after two periods.

Nebraska is off until Nov. 30 when it competes at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.
