Sodbusters Sign Trio of UNC Standouts

HASTINGS – The Hastings Sodbusters have added three more players to its roster.

Three players from the University of Northern have signed to play for the new Expedition League team that will play its home games at Duncan Field this summer. Those players being Riley Gregory (C), Jake Oblas (1B) and Sam Colehower (RHP).

Gregory attended Pine Creek High School, excelling at both baseball and hockey. He earned spots on both the All-Conference and All-Area squads while posting a batting average of .379. “Gregory is a high-quality individual that has a bright future off the field as well as on it,” Sodbusters Owner, GM, and Head Coach Bryan Frew shared. Gregory was selected team captain both in hockey and baseball, member of the National Honors Society and on his high school’s Athletic Leadership Council. As a true freshman in 2017, Gregory appeared in 3 games, getting 2 abs and 3 put outs.

Frew is looking forward to the big bat Oblas will be bringing to Hastings. Oblas hit .489 in high school while earning First Team All-District honors in 2015 and 2016 and Second Team All-District honors as a Sophomore in 2014. Oblas attended Gunter High School and helped the team reach the state semifinals in two of his three years as a varsity letter-winner. Oblas redshirted in 2017, but was still able to get 1 hit in 2 at bats.

Colehower is a true freshman, right-handed pitcher from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, CO. Colehower posted a 5-1 record while striking out 61 hitters in 58 innings of work.
