VALLEY, NE — Mother nature is ringing in the New Year with bitterly cold weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for most of Nebraska starting at 6:00 PM and lasting until noon on Tuesday. The NWS says to expect northwest winds increasing to 25-45 miles per hour throughout the night. Wind chills are expected to register between -10 and -25 degrees throughout the advisory time period.
The cold will be accompanied by a wintry mix of precipitation in northern Nebraska. 1-2 inches of snow is expected in Cedar, Knox and Boyd counties in northeast Nebraska. Chadron and Harrison in northwest Nebraska are expected to receive 4-6 inches of snow. Dawes and Sioux counties are in a Winter Weather Advisory.
The NWS says to avoid spending prolonged time outdoors. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes in these conditions.
