Wellsandt was among six Nebraskans expected to show their calves at the national show in Denver.
SYRACUSE - Sydney Wellsandt is breaking new ground for eastern Nebraska as the first to compete in the catch a calf program of the famed National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo.
The 14-year-old daughter of Rod and Jeannette Wellsandt, Sydney was among 40 kids to catch a calf at the national stock show rodeo in January. The program has been open to kids from Western Nebraska in the past, but this is the first year the eastern half of the state has been eligible.
In front of the packed stadium with the music blaring and a play-by-play announcer in the sound system, Wellsandt called catching the calf a nerve racking, but fun experience.
