Raiders Make National Tournament for 7th Strait Year

COLUMBUS – Central Community College is going to be playing in the NJCAA Division 2 National Tournament for the 7th strait year, after back to back wins this weekend.

The raiders took on Bismarck State College on Friday and Saturday this weekend in the District Playoff.

The Raiders started off the weekend with a clean sweep, downing BSC; 25-22, 25-17, and 25-23. Head Coach Mary Young says Jacie Laetsch led the team with a double double, marking 16 kills and 14 digs, while Lexi Holland snagged 14 digs, and Amber Anderson scored 9 kills.

Jordee Korte put in a strong defensive effort with 2 solo blocks and 3 assisted blocks, while Paxton Throne had 33 assists.

“Overall it wasn’t our cleanest match; we had quite a few ball handling errors, particularly in set one which allowed BSC to remain close. It’s always good to get a win on Friday of the district playoff and particularly on the road,” says Young

The Raiders played BSC in a second match on Friday, where CCC took down Bismarck in 4 sets; 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-14.  Tompkin led the team in kills at 17, and had an additional 4 blocks, while  Laetsch had 12 kills and 11 digs.  Throne had 49 assists in the second match of the weekend, with 13 digs.

With the victories over the weekend, Central punched their ticket to their 7th strait National Tournament. The tournament will be played in West Virginia and begins on November 16th.
