Omaha man released from jail, rearrested on same day

OMAHA, NE (AP) – An Omaha man who was released before his sentencing for attacking a jail guard is back behind bars — a move a local police union is praising.

Bruce McGrone pleaded no contest Friday to felony assault for the November attack on Douglas County Jail corrections officer. McGrone was released from jail Monday morning with orders to stay at an Omaha drug treatment center until his June sentencing hearing.

McGrone was re-arrested Monday evening after failing to report to the center.

Lieutenant Dave Aldrich is president of Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 8. He thanked the Douglas County Attorney’s Office for quickly seeking a new arrest warrant for McGrone.

Aldrich says the November assault was one of the worst he’s seen in more than 20 years as a corrections officer.
