PERU - Peru State College will host former University of Nebraska football player and Olympic champion Curt Tomasevicz as part of the "Distinguished Speaker Series."
Tomasevicz's presentation, “Have No Fear,” will touch on his Olympic gold medal for bobsledding and collegiate football career with the Cornhuskers. The presentation will be held on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. The speech will be free and open to the public.
Peru State established the "Distinguished Speaker Series" in 2010 as part of its commitment to student engagement and success. The intent is to bring diverse, nationally and internationally recognized speakers to southeast Nebraska to enrich the educational experience of students while also providing the surrounding communities with opportunities to engage in interesting and relevant topics.
Tomasevicz grew up in Shelby, a small town of nearly 700 people in east-central Nebraska. He earned a bachelor and master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, while playing running back and linebacker for the football team.
He made his bobsledding Olympic debut in Torino in 2006, where his team took sixth place in the four-man competition. His biggest achievement came at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver when he, the late Steve Holcomb, Justin Olsen and Steve Mesler raced to the first American four-man Olympic title in 62 years.

In 2014, Curt Tomasevicz completed his decorated bobsled career at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. He climbed the medal stand with teammates and received bronze. He won gold in 2010. (World-Herald News Service)
